Pedestrian Killed on Main Street Monday Identified. Charges not expected.

A traffic accident, in the City of Crossville this morning, resulted in the death of Crossville resident, 85-year-old Vertie McNeeley, who was attempting to walk across U.S. Highway 127 / Main Street, in the area of the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Evidence of the accident protected as the investigation
was underway.

Witnesses report that traffic was stopped on Main Street, at the 4th Street red light. As Mr. McNeeley stepped into traffic, around the front passenger corner of a semi-truck, the truck began to move under the green light, resulting in Mr. McNeeley being struck, knocked to the ground and subsequently run over.

First responders immediately began life-saving efforts and Mr. McNeeley was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation continues, however, o criminal charges are expected to result, at this time.


Main Street was closed for about 2 hours as Crossville Police and Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the accident.
