The choppers appeared to be Sikorsky Super Stallion heavy lifters that have a crew of 2 and can carry up to 19 additional passengers. These choppers can also be used for transporting large items as well.
Photos of a similar flight indicate they may have flown over Nashville also on Saturday.

They were very impressive (and loud!). I agree they seemed to be the great big helicopters which I believe are the Super Stallions (or maybe Navy Sea Stallions). I think former City Mgr Ted Meadows' son flew one, and later flew the President's helicopter.
ReplyDeleteI had to research to figure out what they were. The Sea Stallions only have 4 blades and were retired from military service a couple years ago.
