Crossville City Hall and Offices closing early due to weather

The city of Crossville has decided to close early due to the threat of travel problems due to cold temperatures and winter precipitation. 

All city offices will close at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 12. 

The city will also be closed Monday, January 15 for Martin Luther King Day.

Public Invited to reception Tuesday Afternoon as longtime Crossville CIty Clerk Sally Oglesby Retires

A very special event is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, December 19 to commemorate the retirement of longtime Crossville City Clerk Sally Oglesby. Mrs. Oglesby is retiring after 32 years of service to the city. The retirement reception for Oglesby will be held at Crossville city hall starting at 1 PM and refreshments will be served.

Oglesby was initially hired as the Crossville City Recorder, as the job was then known when she started, in April of 1985. Oglesby has worked in three different city hall buildings over the years and has worked with 11 regular city managers during her tenure plus a number of interim city managers as well.

Crossville city offices closed Thursday and Friday November 23 and 24.

City offices will be closed Thursday, November 23rd, and Friday, November 24th, in observance of Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume on Monday, November 27th.

Public safety operations of police and fire will continue over the holiday.

Council's November Meeting could be a Short One Based on the Agenda

Crossville city council's November meeting looks like it will be a short one.

The council's evening starts Tuesday at 5:20 PM with the audit committee and then at 5:50 a public hearing on the annexation and plan of services for a property on Lantana Road and 11 acres of an expansion of the Gardens.

The regular council agenda is set for 6:00 PM and includes presentations for the student of the month and 12 items under the consent agenda. The consent agenda includes renewal of the parks and recreation concession contract, temporary street closing for the Christmas Festival and acceptance of the extension of Premier Drive.

Council will handle bids and purchases for volleyball court sand, a fire department generator, a car and truck lift and a truck for the maintenance department.

Also on the agenda is discussion and action on the sewer line and water line to Meadow Park Lake water treatment plant. The recommendation from city staff is for the council to approve moving forward on the project and hiring J. R. Wauford engineers to work on the project.

In addition, the city attorney and city manager reports will conclude the meeting.

Area schools closed on eclipse day. Some businesses, government offices closed between 1 and 2 PM for eclipse peak.

Local officials are making plans for an influx of visitors on Monday, August 21 for the Total Eclipse of the sun and traffic could be heavy.

With Crossville being very close to the center line of totality a large influx of visitors is possible with most all hotel rooms locally already reserved but many others could just drive in for the day.

After several weeks of holding the line, the Cumberland County school system announced they would close for the day of the eclipse on Wednesday evening. All schools and central offices will be closed for the day. Crossville private schools will also be closed, Crossville Christian School and Christian Academy of the Cumberlands. Other area schools that will be closed include Morgan, Fentress, Putnam, Roane and Rhea Counties.

In addition, the Crossville city hall and city offices will be closed between 1 and 2 PM at the height of the eclipse. Also closed for that peak eclipse hour is the Progressive Bank, Highland Federal Savings & Loan, Cumberland Co. Bank, First Bank, and the Upper Cumberland Federal Credit Union.

Due to the inclement weather, Crossville city hall and all Crossville offices will be closing at 2:00 PM today.

Crossville city council work session tonight

The Crossville city council will hold a budget work session this evening at 5:15 PM at Crossville city hall.  The meeting will be in the third floor conference room and will be the first formal work session held on the city's 2016-17 fiscal year budget that starts July 1 this year.
