Pedestrian Killed on Main Street Monday Identified. Charges not expected.

A traffic accident, in the City of Crossville this morning, resulted in the death of Crossville resident, 85-year-old Vertie McNeeley, who was attempting to walk across U.S. Highway 127 / Main Street, in the area of the Cumberland County Courthouse.

Witnesses report that traffic was stopped on Main Street, at the 4th Street red light. As Mr. McNeeley stepped into traffic, around the front passenger corner of a semi-truck, the truck began to move under the green light, resulting in Mr. McNeeley being struck, knocked to the ground and subsequently run over.

First responders immediately began life-saving efforts and Mr. McNeeley was transported by EMS to Cumberland Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation continues, however, o criminal charges are expected to result, at this time.


Main Street was closed for about 2 hours as Crossville Police and Tennessee Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

Four year old Luke Miller killed in ATV accident Friday; services Wednesday.

The information below is from a press release from the Crossville Police Department.  The child was Luke Miller, identified in an obituary listed by Bilbrey Funeral Home.  Luke is survived by his Parents Joshua and Kelley Miller, a sister Hallie Miller.  Services will be held at Harmony Baptist Church on Cook Rd September 13 at 1 PM. 

On Friday, September 8, 2017, at approximately 6:21 PM, the City of Crossville Police Department responded to a residence on Jesse Loop, in reference to an injured 4-year-old child. It was reported that the child and his father had been riding an A.T.V. that had lost control and subsequently flipped over, injuring the child. Rescue breathing efforts were made by the father and were continued by Emergency Medical responders, upon their arrival.

The injured child was transported to the Cumberland Medical Center E.R. and was further flown to U.T. Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly before midnight, CST. The investigation is ongoing at this time and any further details will be released only upon the completion of a full and thorough investigation.

Teen Killed in Peavine Road accident Monday

Crossville Police press release:

On Monday June 5, 2017, at approximately 2pm, a traffic crash on the 1900 block of Peavine Road, in Crossville, TN, claimed the life of a local resident and closed Peavine Road to traffic for several hours.

18 year old Crossville Resident, Dade P. Brown was driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse southbound on Peavine Road, in the rain. Brown lost control of the vehicle in a curve, and was unable to prevent the vehicle from crossing into oncoming traffic, where it collided with a 2008 Toyota Tundra, driven by Fairfield Glade resident, 68 year old Gary Storer.

Dade P. Brown was killed in the collision. Gary Storer and passenger Barbara Storer, were both transported by ambulance to Cumberland Medical Center and then onto University of Tennessee Trauma Center for treatment of incapacitating injuries.

Peavine Road was cleared of debris and reopened for traffic at approximately 6pm. Any questions should be directed to the Crossville Police Department at 931-484-7231.

TBI Special Agents Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Scott County

At the request of 8th District Attorney General Jared Effler, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances that led to an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday morning in Oneida.

Preliminary information indicates that just before 12:30 EST, two deputies with the Scott County Sheriff's Office and one officer with the Oneida Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling south on Alberta Street. The driver didn't immediately stop and continued on until he reached the parking lot of a business located at the intersection of Alberta Street and Depot Street. Officers then approached the vehicle and removed a female passenger from the car. The driver of the vehicle refused to comply with commands and accelerated, driving toward officers and nearly striking them. Officers fired shots toward the vehicle, which left the parking lot and continued to travel north on Alberta Street for a short distance before crashing. The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been positively identified.

A team of Agents and Forensic Scientists worked throughout the night conducting interviews and collecting any and all relevant evidence. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.

As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department.

CCHS Teacher facing Vehicular Homicide and DUI

CCHS teacher Meghan WIlson, 36 is facing changes following a fatal accident on Highway 127-N that led to the death of 46 year old John V. Rowe.  Rowe was on a motorcycle when, according to the THP report Wilson's vehicle crossed the center line and struck Rowe.  Wilson was not injured in the wreck.  Charges include vehicular homicide, DUI and violation of implied consent.
