Crossville City Council OKs 2nd Reading of 2018-19 Budget and Tax Rate with Final OK set for June 12

In a short special called meeting, the Crossville City Council approved the .second readings of the 2018-19 fiscal year budget and the property tax rate with just one reading remaining.



With council member Pam Harris Absent, the four council members present unanimously approved the unchanged property tax rate of 59 cents per $100 of assessed value. The fiscal year budget will be $1.1 million in the red but because the city has over $10 million in reserves of the general fund balance the financial condition of the city remains strong.


The Third and final reading of the approval of the budget is expected to come Tuesday, June 12, during the regular June Council meeting.  In addition, a public hearing on the budget will be held that night for the public to make any comments on the budget.  

Also on Tuesday nights special called consent agenda was the third and final reading of a budget amendment to pay the Board of Education $10,000 towards their drainage project at CCHS. Also approved was a budget amendment for end or year adjustments of the current fiscal year to bring the current budget into line with actual expenses.


Council also approved the purchase of a commercial mower and public works uniforms.
