Emma Grace Christopher Named Student of the Month for Honesty

The January Student of the Month from Martin Elementary School was recognized at the Crossville City Council meeting. 

Emma Grace Christopher was recognized for her character trait of honesty.  In the Fifth Grade class of Ms. Kim Smith, Emma was described as "Honest in both her word and actions toward those in her class and beyond."

Mayor Mayberry Proclaims Drug and Alcohol Facts Week, Event Saturday.

Crossville Mayor James Mayberry has proclaimed this week as National Drug and Alcohol Facts Week in Crossville.

The recognition runs through January 28 and the proclamation was presented to Steve Stone who accepted it on behalf of the group Cumberland County Rising.  The group is holding a Family Day Open House this Saturday from 10 AM until 3 PM at the Cumberland County Community Complex and the public is invited to attend and meet our community resources for the facts, prevention, treatment, and recovery of drug and alcohol addiction. Guest speakers, canine demo, activities for kids, Narcan Training, food, and more. The event is free.

Mr. Stone made a few comments after accepting the proclamation saying, "I just want to thank the City of Crossville for helping get the coalition up and running.  We've got a lot of momentum and a lot of people involved.

Students Honored at Crossville City Council Meeting for Art designs and Character

A number of Cumberland County School children were recognized at the December Crossville City Council meeting.

Madilyn Rymer was recognized at eh Martin Elementary Student of the month for her representation of the character trait of caring. Madilyn is in Ms. Melissa Buffkin’s 2nd-grade class. Her teacher described her as "caring in both her words and actions toward those in her class and beyond."

The annual Crossville Holiday Card contest has been held since the city's Centennial celebration in 2001 and this year 8 schools participated.  

One winner from each school was chosen.  Winners included

Thirty Years of Service by Hospice of Cumberland County Recognized

proclaiming November as Hospice month in Crossville.

Hospice of Cumberland County was recognized during the Crossville city council meeting as November was proclaimed Hospice Month by Crossville Mayor James Mayberry.  The local Hospice organization has served the area for 30 years and continues to be a leader in the Hospice community across Tennessee. 

Every year more than 1.5 million Americans living with life-limiting illness, and their families, received care from the nation’s hospice programs in communities through the United States, yet more than 40% of Medicare beneficiaries received care for 14 days or less, considered too short a time to fully benefit from the range of services that hospice offers.

Hospice saves Medicare more than $2 billion by providing solutions for physicians, care to patients and comfort to families anywhere, at any time and a growing body of peer-reviewed research indicates that timely access to hospice and palliative care can decrease hospitalizations and Emergency Room visits and increase quality of life for patients and family caregivers

2017 marks the 50th anniversary of St. Christopher’s Hospice in London, widely recognized as the first modern-day hospice organization, and the 35th anniversary of the Medicare hospice benefit in the United States
