Sandra Davis

Davis was born in Cookeville, TN, and was raised in Oak Ridge, TN. Her father, Curtis Barlow, was a well-respected scientist for more than 45 years, while her mother, Maxey, was a beloved piano teacher. Receiving a world-class education for grades K-12, she graduated from Oak Ridge High School in 1971. I was raised as a city girl but was also taught the values of country living through my extended family and our summer visits to their family farms. These experiences guided me into understanding the vast differences in people and helped me to develop my two areas of specialty: education and agriculture,” the candidate noted. “My teaching career began in Roane County where I taught for two years before coming to Cumberland County in 1977 to teach.”

While working as an educator in Cumberland County for 39 years, Davis held positions with various leadership roles. She supervised more than 20 student teachers, mentored many beginning teachers, was heavily involved in the school, county, and regional curriculum guides, served on multiple textbook committees, was a grade level chair for many years, and represented teachers through the county teachers’ association.

Leading is like instructing; most teachers lead naturally,” the candidate stated. “I am prepared to lead and serve our county as your mayor.”

As an experienced farm owner and manager, Davis is also recognized as a leader. She supervises projects in land development, forest management, road construction and maintenance, and is certified in the Beef Quality Assurance and Advanced Master Beef programs.

Caring for people and loving my family are my most important roles in life,” Davis affirmed. “My husband, Jim, and I have been married for 40 years, and we have two sons, James and Bryant.”

Her husband, an Army veteran, is highly decorated for his military service with the 82nd Airmobile Artillery in Vietnam (1969-1971). He is a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Disabled American Veterans. The candidate shares a patriotic view and is a member of The Crab-Orchard Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She is a devoted Christian and a member of Crossville First United Methodist Church.

Our beautiful mountain is my home, and while living and working here, I have gained a deep respect for this area. Touched and motivated by the needs of all Cumberland County residents, I have a desire to address their concerns with a bipartisan approach and to build unity within our county,” Davis confirms.
My goals for the county include preserving our history, defining our present needs, and developing our future. I will encourage existing businesses and industries while researching and evaluating new job and industry opportunities for Cumberland County,” she adds.

As in independent candidate, Sandra Davis' name will not be listed on the primary ballot, coming up on May 1, 2018. She will appear on the general election Aug. 2, 2018, ballot to face the winner of the Republican primary.

The candidate may be reached by email at votedavis2018@gmail.com, through Facebook and Linked-In.
