At the request of 15th District Attorney General Tommy Thompson, TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding three related shootings, including an officer-involved shooting, that occurred Saturday in Smith County.
Preliminary information indicates law enforcement was alerted that Dora Nash was shot by her husband Stacye Nash (DOB 06/21/1962) at their residence on Tribble Lane in Gordonsville. The initial investigation reveals that Stacye Nash then went to his wife's son's residence nearby, and got into an altercation with the son and his girlfriend, firing shots at both of them. The son received a superficial injury from one of the bullets. The girlfriend called 911 and hid in the woods until law enforcement officers arrived. Several deputies with the Smith County Sheriff's Department and one officer with the Gordonsville Police Department responded to the scene. The investigation indicates that Nash fired at the officers, striking several of the vehicles but no individuals. Officers returned fire, striking Nash.
Dora and Stacye Nash were each transported for treatment of their injuries. No officers were injured during the incident.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Special Agents continue to interview witnesses relevant to the investigation. TBI Special Agent Forensic Scientists with the Violent Crime Response Team responded to collect evidence and process the scene throughout the night. As in any case, our investigative findings will be shared with the District Attorney General throughout the process for his consideration and review.
As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their respective department
