November City Council Work Session delayed due to election

The Crossville city council will hold a work session on Thursday, November 8 rather than the usual Tuesday due to the election on the regular meeting day of the first Tuesday of the month.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, November 8th at 5 PM in the third-floor conference room and is open to the public. The council will cover a few topics, but the agenda is shorter than usual as the current council heads into a potential lame duck session.

A number of routine items are on the agenda including the purchase of vehicles, contracts for testing of blood samples for the police department and renewal of the recreation department's concession contract.

Council will also take up the soft flash intersections and some recommended changes and a finalist of intersections for the council's review as well as approval of change orders for the sewer system rehabilitation program from 2017.

The recommendations for the soft flash intersections includes the same intersections as before but a change in the hours for the flashing to take effect. Rather than starting at midnight as previously approved by the council, it is recommended that the program begin at 11 PM each night and end at 5 AM.

Before the change takes effect, there would have to be public announcements and instructions about what the changes mean and how the intersections should be used under the new program.

Because the sewer rehabilitation program from last year has been completed and under budget, the city wants to proceed with other areas that need to be worked on and utilize the funds to improve the system. Several additional projects could be completed with the funds remaining in the program and the current contractor has agreed to do the work with a time extension and some additional items added to allow the different projects to be completed.
