South School gym mural before it was changed by school
maintenance workers at the direction of the director
of schools.
The controversy centers around a long time mural in the South School gym that includes a Confederate flag and an image of a blue-uniformed soldier hanging from a tree.
Parts of the murals have been painted over at the direction of Director of schools Janet Graham sparking complaints from area residents as the complaint that got the mural changed came from a Tennessee resident not in Cumberland County.

Some social media posts have even encouraged residents to call the out of town complainant and posted the phone number.
