May First Cumberland County Primary Races Set and 4 incumbents face no challengers

The Cumberland Count Primary election races are set as of the February 15 deadline there are 7 candidates qualified for the Republican Primary for the office of Cumberland County Mayor and no Democrats.

Candidates who have qualified for the May Republican Primary race for the County Mayor's office include Timothy A. Claflin, Allen Foster, J.C. Hancock, Randal Kidwell, Doug Scarlett, Ligue Wisdom and Danny Wyatt.

No Democratic candidates have qualified to run for County Mayor in the May Primary but an Independent candidate for County Mayor has qualified for the ballot, Sandra Lee (Sandy) Davis. Davis will appear on the August County Ballot as an independent but does not have to run on the May Primary. The Winner of the Republican May primary race will face Davis on the August Ballot.

Three Republican candidates for the office of County Road Superintendent have qualified for the May primary including incumbent Scott Blaylock and challengers Stanley L. Hall and Kevin D. Music. Blaylock is the incumbent County Road Superintendent and both of the other men have run for the office previously.

With the retirement of Court Clerk Larry Sherrill, Two candidates have qualified to be on the ballot for the Republican Primary race for Circuit Court Clerk, Jessica R. Burgess and Nick Neal. No Democratic candidate will appear on the ballot.

The remaining races have a single candidate and are essentially settled since none of the incumbents running for re-election face any opposition.

Incumbent Judy Graham Swallows has qualified for the Register of Deeds on the Democratic primary.

Incumbent Sheriff Casey Cox is the only candidate qualified for the Republican primary. And no candidate will appear on the Democratic ballot.

Incumbent Kim Tollett Wyatt has qualified for Trustee on the Republican Primary and incumbent Jule Bryson has qualified for County Clerk on the Republican Primary. No opposition from either Republicans or Democrats will appear on the ballot.

Short of something unforeseen at this time, Casey Cox will serve another term as Sheriff, Judy Graham Swallow will serve another term as Register of Deeds. Kim Tollett Wyatt will remain County Trustee and Jule Bryson will remain as County Clerk.

No races will pit a Republican against a Democrat. Candidates do have a week to withdraw from a race so their name won't appear on the ballot.

With One Week left to Qualify for the May County Primary election, Races Mostly Set

With just one week to go before the deadline, now five candidates have qualified for the May Republican Primary race for County Mayor's office including Timothy A. Claflin, Allen Foster and J.C. Hancock, Randal Kidwell and Doug Scarlett.

Candidates seeking spots on the May 1, 2018 County Primary Elections

With the May 1, 2018, Cumberland County primary election starting to take shape, numerous candidates have taken out petitions to have their name on the ballot and have until February 15 at noon to return them to qualify.

Elections for 2018 include the County Primary May 1, the County General August 2 and the State General and Municipal elections on November 6.

The most active race appears it will be the race for County Mayor with incumbent Kenny Carey not planning to run for reelection. Candidates who have taken out petitions to appear on the Republican primary ballot include:

CROSSVILLE POLICE DEPT. PRESS RELEASE

On May 13, 2016 a joint narcotics operation led to the service of a Search Warrant at 16536 Genesis Road, in Cumberland County, TN.   Crossville Police Department Narcotics Detectives were working together with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, 13^thJudicial Drug Task Force the HIDTA / TBI Drug Task Force and the Office of the District Attorney General in the execution of a search warrant at an indoor Marijuana cultivation operation.

This search warrant comes after in-depth undercover investigations led to the discovery of an indoor grow operation. This is the second grow operation found by Crossville Narcotics Detectives, from Stephen Michael Harrington. Currently serving 3 years of Supervised Probation, he was again found operating a Marijuana grow operation. Following the search of the property; Firearms, Cash, Processed Marijuana and over 180 Marijuana plants were discovered.

Some evidence of an illegal grow operation were found inside the residence, however, the full scale cultivation was found in a large barn, just a few hundred yards away. The inside of barn had been finished to create two separate tropical grow environments, with electrical service costing thousands of dollars annually to operate.  Additionally, remote wireless surveillance equipment had been installed to monitor areas of the compound, including the locked gate at the driveway entrance.

Criminal indictments will again be sought on Stephen M. Harrington, at an upcoming session of the Cumberland County Grand Jury. Additionally, criminal indictments will also be sought on the owner, and primary resident of the property, Florence “Flo” Matheson, in connection with the operation.

A joint narcotics operation is currently underway at 16536 Genesis Road, in Cumberland County, TN. This is the second grow operation found by Crossville Narcotics Detectives, from Stephen Michael Harrington, who was indicted and sentenced in Criminal Court, in 2015, for manufacture of marijuana in an amount of over 20 plants, at an East First Street residence. Currently serving 3 years of Supervised Probation, he is again operating a Marijuana grow house. Harrington’s previous arrest date was, coincidentally one year ago, on May 13, 2015.

As the search of the property is currently on-going, no further information is available as to the amount of plants and other items that will be discovered. Following the completed execution of this search warrant, a full press release will go out on May 16, 2016.
