With the deadline now officially passed, no candidates withdrew from the May 1st county primary elections. The final list of candidates is HERE.

In the August 2nd Cumberland County election for all members of the Cumberland County Commission and the odd number districts of the Board of Education the following list of candidates have taken out papers to run. Incumbents are indicated as well as those who have returned petitions and qualified for the ballot.

Two commissioners from each district and one BOE member from the odd number districts 1,3,5,7 and 9 will be elected in the August balloting. Most of these candidates listed below have taken out papers but not yet returned them. Candidates who have qualified are indicated. The deadline for qualification petitions to be turned in to the Election Commission office is April 5 at noon.

Federal and State race primaries will also be held on August 2 as well. July 3 is the final day to register and be eligible to vote in the August elections. You can register to vote online here: http://www.govotetn.com/

New Candidates for County Races plus County Commission and BOE Races Starting to take Shape.

Some new candidates have taken out papers to run for Cumberland County Mayor including one new Republican and an independent.

So far there are three candidates who have qualified for the May County Primary election including Timothy A. Claflin, Allen Foster and J.C. Hancock.

Other candidates have taken out papers and have until February 15 at noon to return them. In addition to previous candidates, one new potential candidate took out papers this week to run, Randall Kidwell. Kidwell is an environmental consultant and son of Tom Kidwell who served as Crossville City Manager, a County Commissioner and served on the board of the Catoosa Water Utility District. Other potential candidates previously reported include Doug Scarlett and Ligue Wisdom.

An Independent candidate for County Mayor has taken out papers, Sandra Lee (Sandy) Davis. If she qualifies she will be on the August Ballot as an independent but does not have to run on the May Primary.

Two candidates have qualified for the Republican Primary for Circuit Court Clerk, Jessica R. Burgess and Nick Neal had qualified as of January 25th.

Incumbent Judy Graham Swallows has qualified for the Register of Deeds on the Democratic primary.

Incumbent Sheriff Casey Cox has qualified for the Republican primary, Incumbent Kim Tollett Wyatt has qualified for Trustee on the Republican Primary and incumbent Jule Bryson has qualified for County Clerk on the Republican Primary.

There are now three Republican candidates for the office of County Road Superintending including incumbent Scott Blaylock, Stanley L. Hall and Kevin D. Music.

Candidates for the August County Election for County Commission and Board of Education (BOE) have also started to come in. Two commissioners from each district and one BOE member will be elected. Most of these have taken out papers but not yet returned them.

Four new city manager applicants bring the total to 12 seeking the position so far.

Four additional candidates have expressed interest in the position of Crossville city manager bringing the total applicants so far to 12.  The deadline for applications is September 30

The latest 4 candidates include:

Wayne R. Bodie of Orlando Florida currently serves as a captain in the Orange Co. fire and rescue department. He has worked for the department since 2005. Bodie holds an MBA and also works as a fire instructor. He has previous experience in financial services.

Steve Foote of Dunwoody Georgia serves that community as the Director of Economic and Community Development. He has served in that capacity as the employee of a contractor starting in 2014 and now as a direct employee of the city. Previously Foote served as director of planning for Mt. Juliet Tennessee from 2009 to 2014. Foote's education includes a BS in Geography and Biology and graduate work toward an Masters in Geography.

Daron E. Jordan of Madisonville Kentucky serves as that city's community development director, a position he has held since 2005. He holds a masters degree in organizational management, is a certified economic developer and also operates a consulting firm that specializes in grant writing and administration.

Adam R. Rabe of Marengo Iowa. Mr. Rabe has served as director of the Iowa Co. Iowa EMS since 2008. Part of his tenure was as a hospital employee then the EMS service became part of the county operation. In addition, Rabe served 8 years on the Marengo city council, currently serves on the local 911 board and holds a BS in public administration.

Previous manager applicants are:

Robert G. Bray, Jr. of Pinellas Park Florida is seeking the position after retiring as the Community Planning Director for Pinellas Park Florida between 1995 and 2016.  Prior to that Bray had additional planning experience from 1985-95.  He also has a Masters of Public Adminsitration.  

Jason Hall of Lyons Georgia where he has served as the current city manager since april of 2013. His previous experience includes serving as city administrator of Varnell Georgia between 2011 and 2013 and a codes enforcement officer for Ringgold Georgia from 2004 to 2011. Hall has an associates degree in education and additional course work in business management

The only local applicant so far is Frank Horvath whose resume lists his current position as business and project manager of Crossville Smiles since January 2013. Mr. Horvath holds an MBA from University of Indianapolis and previously worked as project manager for SciSaves, LLC

Catrina Maxwell of Milwaukee Wisconsin currently serves as the deputy clerk of the court for Milwaukee county. Ms. Maxwell holds a Master's degree in public service with a specialization in criminal justice administration.

Louis A. Ogaard of West Valley City Utah holds a PhD in Botany and has 20 years experience with the state of North Dokota where he manage and environmental restoration program. His latest position was providing environmental support at Dugway Proving Ground in Utah.

Christian Saxe currently holds the position of assistant public works director at Spring Hill Tennessee, a position he's held since October of 2015. From 2008 to 2015 Saxe was deputy director of public works for the city of Orange California. He holds a bachelors degree in public administration.

W. Jordan Shaw has been the assistant director of information technology for Franklin Tennessee since February 2015. Shaw holds a Doctorate of Business Administration from Argosy University.

Tina Tuggle of Kingston Tennessee is currently a municipal finance trainer and previously served as the city manager of Oliver Springs Tennessee from June 2012 to November 2014. She also served as Oliver Springs' city recorder from 2010 to 2012. She holds an associate degree in legal science.   

With one week to the deadline 8 city council candidates have qualified

Two additional names have qualified to appear on the November 8 ballot for the two expiring city council seats.

The newly qualified candidates are Jerry T. "J.J." Brownstead and Charles Cooper Jr. This brings the number of candidates vying for 2 council seats to a total of 8.

Previously qualified candidates included:

6) David E. Warner, former city councilman who served from Jan 1985-Dec 1992

In addition, several candidates have taken out qualifying papers but have not yet turned them back in. The deadline to return the petitions with at least 25 registered city voters signatures is August 18 at noon. 

1) Barry Field (Field actually lives outside of the city limits and appears to be ineligible to run.) 
2) Jesse Kerley, currently holding one of the council seats up for election
3) Jack E. Miller, former Crossville city manager
4) Ronnie D. Wyatt, owner of Wyatt Construction

Candidates who qualify do have a week after the August 18 deadline to remove thier name from consideration if they choose to do so.

Latest on the upcoming Crossville city election—Possible New Candidates

Three new qualifying petitions have been signed out by possible candidates to run for Crossville city council in the upcoming November 8 election. Also, one additional petition has been turned back in.

New potential candidates who have taken out petitions include Robert E. Rob Harrison, long-time local Crossville businessman who runs Plateau Properties, Scot Shanks, another long time Crossville businessman and former owner of L. P. Shanks. The third candidate is Jack E. Miller, former city manager and interim city manager who lives in Holiday Hills.

Another candidate, Jeanette Parsons has turned her petition back in, bringing to 3 the number of petitions returned to the election commission. The other candidates who have turned papers back in include former Mayor J. H. Graham and Teri Manning.

Petitions previously taken out but not yet returned include incumbent councilman Jesse Kerley, and Barry Field. While Field took out papers, he does not qualify as a city resident and is likely not elligible to run for a council seat.

In the race for Mayor of Crab Orchard, Michael Findley and Emmett Sherrill have taken out qualifying papers and Mr. Sherrill the incumbent has turned his back in.

The deadline to turn in qualifying papers for the November election is August 18 at noon.   

Crossville city council election update--Two petitions already returned

The deadline to qualify to have a name put on the November 2016 ballot for Crossville city council is still 2 months off, but at least two candidates have turned in their petitions already.

According to the Cumberland County election commission, former mayor J. H. Graham and first time candidate Terri Manning have both turned in their petitions.

Others who have taken out petitions include incumbent councilman Jesse Kerley, Barry Field and Jeanette Parsons.  No additional candidates have taken out petitions.

The deadline to turn in petitions with necessary signatures to the election commission office is August 18 at Noon.
