Hazardous Weather Outlook calls for High Wind, Storms Tuesday night followed by Cold Temperatures

A strong cold front will sweep across Middle Tennessee Tuesday evening. Severe storms are possible late Tuesday afternoon and evening. The best chance for severe weather will occur west of I-65. The primary threat is damaging straight-line winds. Large hail and isolated tornadoes are also possible.

In addition, a Wind Advisory is in effect from Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. South to southwest winds will increase Tuesday morning up to 15 to 25 mph with gusts of 35 to 45 mph at times. This strong winds may blow down a few trees, tree limbs, or power lines.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Middle Tennessee.

The development of severe thunderstorms is expected by the early afternoon hours across western portions of Middle Tennessee.

The potential for development of severe thunderstorms will spread eastward into central portions of Middle Tennessee as the afternoon hours progress. The potential for severe thunderstorms will continue across eastern portions of Middle Tennessee including the Cumberland Plateau Region through the mid-evening hours.

Main threats from severe thunderstorms that do develop will be straight line damaging winds, large hail, and isolated strong tornadoes.

Maybe snow? Maybe not? Either way things warm up on Monday.

Rain showers today expected to mix with or change over to snow tonight...mainly after midnight. Light accumulation is possible across the north and east...with the highest amounts on the upper Cumberland.

A few snow showers will continue along the plateau early Monday morning. Some slick spots on roads will be likely.

A Quick Shot of Measurable Snow Possible Over Parts of the Mid State Late Tonight and Early Monday.

A low-pressure system will move across our area tonight and early Monday, pulling in colder air from the north and giving northern and eastern parts of Middle Tennessee a chance for measurable snowfall. 

The best chance for snowfall accumulation will be in the counties near the Kentucky border, especially along the Highland Rim, north of Nashville, extending eastward toward Lafayette, Smithville and the Cumberland Plateau. Those areas could see between one half and one inch of snow accumulation late tonight into early Monday morning.

There is still some uncertainty regarding snowfall accumulations and temperatures late Sunday night and early Monday are expected to drop to between 29 and 32 degrees over extreme northern Middle Tennessee and along the Cumberland Plateau. 

So, it is possible that some roads could become slushy or snow covered. Any snow that falls won`t stick around long, as temperatures are forecast to top out in the 40s to around 50 by Monday afternoon.

Hazardous Weather Outlook for Saturday and Sunday February 24-25

Today and Tonight

Severe weather will be possible across Middle TN this evening and
into the overnight hours. The main threat will be damaging
straight line winds, however a tornado or two cannot be ruled out.

In addition to severe weather, a flood watch remains in effect
for portions of Middle TN. While the main concern is river
flooding, localized flash flooding will be possible within the
watch area.

Rain Thursday followed by Possible Snow into Friday-Hazardous Weather Outlook

Rain will develop across the area during the day on Thursday, with the rain possibly mixing with or changing over to light snow east of the I-24 corridor on Thursday evening. 

A dusting to one-half inch of snow is possible in the Upper Cumberland and on the Cumberland Plateau. More rain, possibly mixed with snow, is expected from late Saturday afternoon through Sunday night across Middle Tennessee. Too much uncertainty remains on whether any snow accumulations will occur.

Hazardous Weather Outlook calls for bitter wind chills--Schools on 2-hour delay for Friday. Wintery Mix Sunday?

As of Thursday afternoon, Cumberland County School plan to operate on a 

two hour delay for Friday, January 4.

Overnight

Wind chill values will fall to between -5 and 5 once again
tonight. Precautions should be taken to protect from the bitter
cold.

Friday through Sunday

FRIDAY...Scattered snow flurries are expected across much of
Middle Tennessee on Friday morning. No accumulation is
anticipated.

Frosty weather continues for the Plateau

SUNDAY...Although still very uncertain, there is some potential
for a light wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain, or snow from
Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Temperatures will warm up
through the night with any wintry mix changing to all rain by
Monday morning. Some travel impacts are possible if a wintry mix
occurs, but confidence is low.

Dangerous Wind Chills Return Overnight Thursday...

Another cold air blast will move into the region tonight. Across
much of the Cumberland Plateau, wind chill values will drop to
dangerous levels late tonight into early Thursday morning.

WIND CHILL ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 9 AM
CST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...Very cold wind chills expected, which can cause frostbite
  to exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Wind chills will
  range from 5 above to 5 below zero.

* WHERE...Portions of the Cumberland Plateau.

* WHEN...Midnight to 9 AM Thursday.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Dress in layers and minimize exposed skin.
  Make sure children have hats and gloves as they go to school. Bring
  pets indoors and check on neighbors, elderly, and the homeless.

Cooler temperatures later this afternoon and evening may bring
chances for some light mixed precipitation late in the afternoon
and evening over the I-65 corridor and east. On the northern
Plateau, some light snow accumulations up to a few tenths of an
inch will be possible this evening.

Some area river flooding will continue through the day.

The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for 

the Crossville area but little accumulation is predicted.

Scattered to numerous snow showers along the Cumberland Plateau
Tuesday morning may produce snow accumulations up to around a
half inch, especially in areas between Crossville and the
Kentucky border. Temperatures are expected to be around the
freezing mark, and those traveling across the Cumberland Plateau
early Tuesday should watch for light snow accumulations on area
roadways and drive with appropriate caution.

Frost Advisory for Cumberland Co and parts of Middle Tennessee tonight and into next week

The local growing season appears to be over with a light frost last night and more frost expected over the next several days.

The National Weather Services has issued a Frost Advisory for Thursday Morning from 1 AM to 8 PM and the outlook is for more frost through the weekend.

Frost Expected Tonight, Especially Across the Upper Cumberland
Region

The first chilly air of fall has moved into Middle Tennessee,
and along with that comes the potential for frost.

For Late tonight and into Thursday morning, widespread frost is
expected across the Upper Cumberland Region, with patchy frost
elsewhere across the Mid State.

Looking ahead, another cold front will bring the potential for
widespread frost and some freezing temperatures early next week.

Remnants of Hurricane Nate moves through Middle Tennessee Sunday afternoon with wind and rain

Weather conditions will incldue wind and rain for the first few days of the coming

week.  Localalized strong winds and heavy rain could cause some flooding. 

Windy conditions will develop over eastern parts of Middle Tennessee late today.

The remnants of Hurricane Nate will move from Alabama toward the
east part of Middle TN this afternoon through this evening. In
addition to bringing heavy rain, this storm will cause gusty winds
which could reach around 45 MPH mainly on and near the Cumberland
Plateau. Winds will steadily diminish late tonight as Nate moves
away from the region.

A wind advisory is in effect for late this afternoon through early
evening for a portion of the Cumberland Plateau as the remnants
of Tropical Storm Nate move northward into the region. Sustained
winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 45 mph are expected
during this period.

A strong cold front will sweep across Middle Tennessee on Tuesday,
resulting in additional rainfall and the possibility of strong
storms. The biggest threats are gusty winds and small hail.
Additional rainfall totals from today through Tuesday will range
from 1 to 3 inches, with the heaviest amounts occurring across
southern Middle Tennessee and the Cumberland Plateau. Minor
localized flooding is possible in these areas.

National Weather Service hazardous outlook for Sunday-Monday from expected Hurricane Nate.

Friday through Wednesday

Tropical Storm Nate is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane and
make landfall along the northern Gulf Coast on Sunday. Although
still uncertain, the latest forecast track brings the remnants of
Nate near or across Middle Tennessee late Sunday into Monday with
a threat for locally heavy rainfall and gusty winds.

Hurricane Irma remnants to affect Crossville area weather--NOAA/NWS issues wind advisory and rain likely

WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM CDT MONDAY TO 7 AM CDT
TUESDAY


Strong winds associated with Hurricane Irma will occur as it
approaches Middle Tennessee on Monday night. Even though Irma
will weaken from a tropical storm to a tropical depression as it
approaches Middle Tennessee, sustained northeast winds of 20 to
35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph can be expected across Middle
Tennessee on Monday night.

Hurricane Irma is expected to weaken to a tropical depression and
bring rain and windy conditions to Middle Tennessee later this
afternoon and into early Tuesday morning. A wind advisory is in
effect for the mid state, where winds of 15 to 30 mph with gusts
to 45 mph will be common. Gusts to 50 mph will also be possible
for some areas. Heavy rainfall is possible as well, with amounts
of 1 to 3 inches mainly from Monday afternoon through Tuesday
morning.

Tuesday through Wednesday

Gusty winds may continue Tuesday morning around 15 to 25 mph and
gusts to 35 mph before calming down during the day.

A Flash Flood Watch continues to be in effect through 1 pm this
afternoon. An additional 1 to 3 inches is possible. While the highest
amounts of remaining rainfall will be mainly north of I-40,
periods of heavy rainfall will be possible in other areas of the
watch with the potential for flash flooding.

Gusty winds are also likely today. Sustained speeds of 10 to 20
mph with gusts above 40 mph are expected.

is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday: Showers and thunderstorms. High near 77. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. 

Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and 

three quarters of an inch possible.

THe National Weather Service has issued this Hazardous Weather outlook

for Friday June 23 and into next week. 

DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy will bring heavy rainfall to
the mid-state today. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 7 am
Saturday morning for areas generally along and north of I-40,
including all of the Nashville Metro area. 1.5 to 2.5 inches of
rainfall is expected, but locally higher amounts are possible.


In addition to the heavy rainfall, severe weather is also a
possibility for all of Middle Tennessee today. While damaging
straight line winds will be the main threat, isolated tornadoes
cannot be ruled out this afternoon and this evening.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Rises on area rivers and creeks will be possible Sunday and Monday
as rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy run off. Minor
flooding will be possible.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT:

Tropical Storm Cindy to impact Middle Tennessee today through
Friday night.

Tropical Storm Cindy has made landfall on the Gulf Coast this
morning. Although it will quickly weaken as it moves further
inland, its remnants will still have a significant impact on the
weather across Middle Tennessee today through Friday night.

As the storm moves into the Lower Mississippi Valley tonight and
then across Middle Tennessee late Friday and Friday evening, look
for widespread showers and thunderstorms to spread across the
region. The prolonged exposure to copious tropical moisture will
contribute to significant rainfall amounts and possible flash
flooding, especially Friday and Friday night.

In addition to the heavy rainfall potential and flooding threat,
there is a marginal risk of severe storms across all of Middle
Tennessee today and tonight, and a marginal or slight risk of
severe storms Friday and Friday night. The primary threat
continues to be damaging straight line winds, but tropical systems
are also known to spawn weak, short-lived tornadoes.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy are expected to produce
significant rainfall amounts across Middle Tennessee beginning
today. Flooding impacts today and tonight will be minimal, and
restricted mainly to ponding of water on roads during heavy
downpours. In addition, there is a marginal risk of severe storms
across the entire mid state, with damaging straight line winds the
primary threat.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Friday through Wednesday

Rainfall amounts will intensify on Friday and Friday night as the
storm center moves directly across Middle Tennessee. Two day
rainfall amounts will average 2 to 4 inches, with most of this
occurring Friday and Friday evening. There is also a marginal or
slight risk of severe storms, with damaging straight line winds
once again the primary threat. However, it is important to
remember that tropical systems are known to produce weak, short-
lived tornadoes.
