Quiet Crossville CIty Council Meeting Expected as City Elections get Closer.

With city elections 2 months away, the Crossville City Council's agenda holds no surprises and nearly all of the mostly routine agenda will fall under the consent agenda.

Council's Tuesday evening starts at 5:15 PM with the audit committee meeting, followed at 5:45 by the Beer Board. A public hearing on annexation progress report for the Gardens is scheduled for 5:50 and the council meeting starts at 6:00 PM in the Council chambers.

In addition to the consent agenda, with school now back in session, the student of the month for Martin Elementary School will be recognized at the start of the meeting and there is a time for public comment.

Under other business, the council will discuss possibly restoring a policy for bridged insurance for retirees. The policy was removed from the city in 2010 and a detailed study has been prepared by human resources director Leah Crockett. The study looks at current insurance costs and compares employees and their current pay rate and the cost of bridged insurance added to the change in salary expenses for a replacement employee should the better-paid employee retire before the age of 65.

The report from Crockett said that with the change in 2010, many employees had to adjust plans for retirement to age 65. Under the bridged insurance policy, an employee would be eligible at age 55 with 30 years of service to the city or at age 60 with 20 years of service.

Council will also hear reports from the city attorney and the city manager.

Some of the items under the consent agenda include closing some undeveloped street right of ways, approval of an Eagle Scout project concerning veteran graves in the City Cemetery, renewal of employee health insurance, approval of several street closings for downtown events, and a number of purchase approvals.
