(Editor's note: I'm sharing this info on behalf of my youngest son Jacob who has participated in this marathon fund raiser for several years starting when he was a student in video game design at ETSU. This program has raised tens of millions of dollars for chidlren's hospitals all across the county and is one of the more interesting charity ideas I've run across. Thanks for reading, and if you feel like donating to encourage this young man that would be great!)
Hi, my name is Jacob Young, and this
Saturday, November 5th, starting at 11 AM CDT and
continuing until Sunday, November 6th, at 11 AM CST, I
will be participating in the 2016 Extra Life marathon, playing video
games for 25 hours to raise money for the Wellmont Health Systems
Children's Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Jacob Young, left, a 2016 graduate of ETSU Digital Media program has
represented the school at the East Coast Game Conference in Raleigh NC
for the last two years.
Extra Life is a charity gaming
marathon founded in 2008 by Jeromy “Doc” Adams of the Sarcastic
Gamer website. Inspired by the story of Victoria Enmon, a young,
video game-loving girl who suffered from acute lymphoblastic
leukemia, Extra Life has grown into a worldwide event that has raised
over 22 million dollars for Children's Miracle Network hospitals all
across the United States and Canada.
Over the last four years, I've
participated in 3 Extra Life marathons, played hundreds of different
games ranging from NES classics to modern AAA blockbusters, and
raised over 500 dollars for the Johnson City hospital. All of that
money goes straight to the hospital, with it being spent on things
like emergency and critical pediatric treatments or new pediatric
medical equipment. Your donation is also tax-deductible.
Please, if you can, donate at
http://www.extra-life.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=234042
. The marathon will be live at http://twitch.tv/thefakepsychic
, please come by and check it out!
Thank you for your time.
