The Crossville Police Department, working under the supervision of 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and in conjunction with Cumberland County, Putnam County, Fentress County, Wilson County Sheriff’s Offices and Lebanon Police Department, have recovered nearly $1,000,000.00 dollars’ worth of illegal and counterfeit items.
On December 2, 2016 Crossville Detectives Danny Harris and Jason Wilson acted on a tip, that was provided by Agent Curt Moore of “EPIC” Services and Consulting, that a fairly substantial quantity of counterfeit designer clothing and articles were being sold at the Cumberland County Community Complex, in Crossville, TN. The detectives’ investigation located the merchandise and the items were confirmed as being counterfeit. During the following week, leads were developed in all the listed jurisdictions and, working in conjunction with the multiple other business owners who were volunteering their assistance, various additional counterfeit items, which bore the names of North Face, Louis Vitton, Polo, Yeti, Coach, Nike, as well as many others, were recovered.
Local impacts on economy and on the many citizens who thought that they were buying legitimate, name-brand items were not the only concerns for the involved agencies. Counterfeiting and piracy cost the U.S. economy between $200 billion and $250 billion per year, are responsible for the loss of 750,000 American jobs, and pose a threat to health and safety.
