The Biennial reunion of the participants in the Cumberland Homestead Project was held Saturday, July 7 on the grounds of the Homestead Tower. The event brings together family members of the original Homesteaders that were chosen to work on the land building houses and eventually being able to buy their property. Part of the work they did was credited to them for the property purchase. The Homestead Project was an important part of the growth of Cumberland County in the 1930's following the Great Depression.
Friends and family got together to talk about the times
they remembered as part of the Homesteads. All
the original Homesteaders have now passed on and
children who grew up as part of the program are called
"Pioneers."
